Planning

This photo from the photo shoot I did for my music magazine has the conventions of most music magazine images. For example, there is direct mode of address which is important because the reader feels as if they are looking directly at the star. The outfit chosen represents a typical festival theme. The use of knee high socks, denim shorts and a big cardigan show a relaxed and mellow attitude. I opted for my model to wear platform converse rather than wellies because it shows she is more androgynous by wearing trainers than if she were to wear bright or 'girly' wellies. I also asked my model to wear flowers in her hair to represent the wildness of the music and how it is earthly and basic; there are sounds of music that are calming and considered beautiful. The Indian head accessory she is wearing shows the idea of the music being multi-cultural, that it is universal and widely accepted. The head piece is also very pretty and suggests my model is a woman who takes pride in her appearance. Her make up is basic to show off natural beauty and signifies the lightness both of the music and of the general appeal/look of it.

This is another photo from my set that I shot and it shows my model looking thoughtful. She is very relaxed and this reflects the genre of music. The background shows a rural setting and the colours are apt for my genre because they are earthy tones. Whilst I will not be using this particular photo in my final artefact, I feel that by uploading it people can gain a better understanding of the image I am trying to achieve.

This photo is another image from my set and again will not be used, but shows the variety of different shots I created. The background is darker here and it almost seems as if my model blends in with her surroundings in places apart from the brightness of her top. It shows she is connected to the earth and the surroundings which connotes a 'hippy' type of person who loves the earth and nature. This is the look I wanted to get.

Screenshots of Chosen Images Being Edited

This is the image I have chosen for my front cover. I opted for this one over the others because it is almost full length (a mid shot) and shows my models attire. It is a beauty shot and is important for my magazine especially the front cover which is the first thing consumers see when they look at it. This image I think is appealing. The editing itself is very basic.

This is the image I am using for my contents page. I chose it because it continues the theme of direct mode of address which I feel is important to entice the reader. I want to keep this throughout my magazine because readers can relate. There is also a sense of beauty within this. Again editing within this image is very basic and only required a few tweaks.

This is the image I am using for my main article/double page spread. I think the smoking looks artistic and the way the smoke is rising in the air is almost beautiful because it connotes she is free. Again there is a direct mode of address which is important for me within my magazine. This suggests a lot more about my model and the kind of person the article is going to be about. Editing was mainly tweaking and change of colour of the image itself.

Edited Images- Final

My front cover final image which has been edited shows a very earthy tone; with oranges and browns and greens highly dramatized. This relates very well to my genre and is exactly what I wanted and the effect I needed.
My contents page edited image shows a darker look and again emphasises the browns, greens and orange colours. This keeps the tone within my magazine and is important in keeping a recurrent theme. There is a darker contrast here compared to the other images to almost 'blend' with the ground.
My main article edited image is brighter and more cheery compared to my other edited images because it is the main article and I want to maintain interest and enthusiasm. The green and yellow hue is important in relation to the indie folk genre and also the surroundings/setting.

It is important to note that whilst these images have been edited in terms of their colours/saturation/blur/contrast/curves/brightness etc. they have not fully been cropped, manipulated and edited which is something I will do in my main artefact.

This screen shot shows the progress of my front page. I have created a large masthead at the top to draw the consumers attention and to make it memorable. I have slanted the text to make the page interesting and included many conventions of a magazine.

This screen shot shows my contents page (above) and the progress I have made on it. It is almost finished but a few tweaks will be made to make it look better and more interesting. I cut the image out and left rough edges because it reflected the rawness of the music and of the model. She is down to earth and with nature. My colour scheme is very much prominent throughout with the black, white and orange. I created interesting banners for each heading to stand out and to let the reader know which section is what.

This screen shot is progress of my main article. So far I have a black background so that the cut out image blends in with the background. It makes my model prominent against the black. There is more focus on the model and that is key because she is the main item for the main article.

This screen shot of my main article shows a significant improvement compared to the last and I have made a lot of progress in making it look more like a double page spread. Appropriate text has been added relevant to the main article and image (anchorage text) and the use of columns gives the reader the impression that it is an article. The font colour is white to stand out against the black and is easily readable.
